The Secretary General of the AACC Eng. Khouja opened the conference with a speech, in which he stressed on the great impact of changes in global oil and gas prices and currencies on the global economy and trade. He noted that the sharp decline in oil prices had a great impact on the economies of states dependent on oil production. This led these countries to change the priorities of their project schedule and to reconsider the implementation of other projects, and to take measures to adjust their budgets. Khouja also pointed out that some countries have resorted to their sovereign funds to save their budgets.

In his speech Dr. Herbert Stepic, Honorary President of the AACC talked about the risks of linking local currencies to foreign currencies leading the global market. In this context Stepic gave examples of both Russia and Saudi Arabia in their capacity as the world's largest oil producers, pointing out that the Russian ruble was linked to the US dollar which caused many economic problems in 1998. While Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states also pegged their currencies to the dollar.

Mr. Gerhard Scharinger MA, Head of Corporate Hedging and Markets, Western Union Business Solutions, spoke about the relationship between the euro and the dollar, as well as the relationship between oil prices and the value of the dollar, which he described as a historical love affair between the two parties. The lower the price of crude oil, the higher the global value of the US dollar rose. He expressed his belief that the oil price will not drop more, but that prices will resume rising again to the price of a barrel of oil to $ 50. He concluded his speech with fact that the US dollar is still the most important global currency in world trade with a participation of 64% compared to other currencies, while the euro comes second in global trading by 20%.

Mag. Gerhard Kinzelberger, Head of Country Analysis, Oesterreichische Kontrollbank Aktiengesellschaft (OeKB) introduced his institution as the Austrian official body to ensure Austrian exports and projects around the world. He explained the credit rating of states, referring to the changing geopolitical situation experienced by the Arab countries. In this context, they divide the Arab countries into two in terms of credit rating; Some are evaluated as fixed or stable and get a high classification, while others are unstable with a lower evaluation, such as Libya, Syria, Iraq and Yemen. He mentioned the long trade and economic relations between Austria and the Arab states, which reflects positively on the relations between the Austrian investors and Arab countries.

For his part, Dr. Jarmo Kotilaine, Chief Economist, Economic Development Board Bahrein spoke about the economy in the GCC countries, noting that the image of the Gulf economies in the Western media is far from reality; as the Gulf economy does not depend on oil exports only, but is based on solid fundamentals. The percentage of Oil and Gas in the economy dwindles steadily in accordance with the strategic directions adopted by these countries, notably Saudi Arabia. He pointed out that there are Gulf investment in several areas of productivity and industry.

The forum concluded with several recommendations, including:
- The need to loosen the dollar exchange rate, and to have the currency depending on the local economy to avoid economic bumps caused by linking local currencies to global ones.

- Diversifying sources of national income and support the development of investment in various sectors of the economy away from heavy reliance on oil and gas.

- Opening the field of investment and the introduction of more facilities for businessmen and investors, as well as the legal environment needed for investment and work.

Mr. Suleiman AL-HERBISH, Director General of the OFID, opened the seminar by emphasizing the importance of energy, water and food for humans. Mr. Li YONG, Director General of the UNIDO, suggested a stronger collaboration between agriculture and industrialization in order to improve global food security.
Still one in nine people in the world are suffering from undernourishment, therefore food security is essential for a large number of countries worldwide.
Ambassadors of the OFID Member Countries, Arab States as well as high-ranking representatives of international organizations participated in the seminar. The main speaker Mahmoud SOLH, from ICARDA (Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas) explained that the growth in world population, coupled with climate change and water scarcity had posed significant challenges to achieving global food security. As discussant, Dr Elouafi of ICBA (International Center for Biosaline Agriculture) stressed the need for innovation that should also look into non-conventional ways of food production, such as the use of non-traditional sources of water.

foodsgDiplomats stressed the necessity of the involvement of the private economy in order to establish food security. Secretary General Mr. KHOUJA evolved on this issue, explaining the fact that the private sector, although it possesses the technology, innovation and project related know-how, hesitates to invest in this sector. The mentioned countries are instable in terms of politics due to four main reasons: first the marginalization of the people and preventing them from a share in national resources; second the lack of infrastructure; third the lack of investment friendly jurisprudence and lastly the corruption. Mr. Khouja suggests that countries with high demands in resources are required to encourage politics to allow the participation of the people, sharing wealth, resources and projects. He further proposes that national governments are required firstly to manage the basic needs of its people, second to lunch programs that mitigate and manage the before mentioned risks. With regards to the private sector it should support the local societies and cooperate with humanitarian organizations. As an example served the OMV company in Austria, which supports the societies of the countries they are working in, such as Libya. The seminar was attended by approximately 80 participants.
