Vienna target of terrorist attack
Austria's capital Vienna was the target of a terrorist attack Monday evening. For many decades Vienna was considered one of the safest cities in the world. Monday evening however, a heavily armed terrorist shot at people. So far, 4 dead and 17 injured have been reported.
The Austro-Arab Chamber of Commerce is deeply shocked and concerned, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, as well as with the Viennese people and everyone who is living and working peacefully in this country.
Our gratitude goes to the emergency rescue workers, doctors, courageous civilians and the security authorities, who have been striving to prevent more injuries or deaths by working tirelessly, very professionally and in a goal-oriented manner, and are still doing so by taking control of the situation.
At the same time, representatives of civil society, professional counselors, religious representatives and psychiatrists can all contribute to alleviating the situation and counteract attempts to drive a wedge between our societies and cultures.
We hope that we will emerge from these terrible attacks united and strengthened, and strongly believe that cohesion and solidarity in Austrian society will solidify in people's hearts, and that there will be no place for terror and hatred.
